I received exactly one email about this — on March 6, 2025. No follow-up. No reminder. No warning that inaction meant permanent, irreversible loss of access to files sitting on my own machine.
My files are physically intact. Nord's own legacy decryption tool - which their support team provided me TODAY - recognizes them. It fails exclusively because Nord shut down the authentication server their own tool depends on. When I raised this with support, I was told there was nothing more they could do.
Nord built an undisclosed online dependency into what they marketed as local, offline encryption - then switched it off. That is not a technical limitation. That is a choice.
